Launched in 2020, the Yukon First Nations Education Directorate (YFNED) is an organization that advances First Nation decision-making over education and the success of First Nation students. The YFNED’s Nutrition Program—funded by Jordan’s Principle to provide equitable and healthy food to Yukon’s Indigenous children—provides in-school meal services, food hampers, and family feasts to Indigenous families.

The challenge

YFNED needed to establish a standalone logo for the Nutrition Program that resonated with a wide age range, but also followed the visual spirit and worked well in tandem with the YFNED’s main logo.

The solution

MBDC designed a logo that centred on dried salmon, a symbol of wealth and trade that is deeply embedded in Indigenous culture, identity, and existence. The colour palette consists of colours that complement the YFNED’s main brand palette, while pulling inspiration from berries, water, and the night sky. We also created a brochure, popup banners, window decals, letterhead, promotional swag, and some posters to promote the program’s initiatives.

MBDC understands that some projects and campaigns require their own brand that don’t stray too far from the family. We’ll capture the spirit of your organization and make sure it's infused in your standalone brands.
